CAMDEN – Holy Cross High School, which is planning to build a campus in Frederica, has received a gift of $2 million from an anonymous donor, the school announced Sept. 25. The gift came on the first day of school, according to head of school Tom Fertal, this donor’s second such gift. The first was $1 million and supported Holy Cross’ first year of operation in 2025-26.
Fertal said the donor, whom the school refers to as its “Angel Investor,” first contacted him on the day Holy Cross opened its doors. This year, he reached Fertal on the first day of school once more with news of the second donation.
“On our first day as a school, he gave us the support we needed to begin,” Fertal said. “On the first day of our second year, he helped us take a major step toward a permanent home. I am deeply grateful for his extraordinary generosity, his trust in our mission, and his desire to give families in Kent and Sussex Counties a Catholic high school rooted in faith and academic excellence.”
The donor has asked that his identity remain private, the school said.
Brian Lessard, chair of the Holy Cross High School board of trustees, said the donor’s generosity has had an impact beyond his own gifts.
“His belief in Holy Cross High School has inspired others to make meaningful gifts to our Founders Campaign. His generosity is helping to build the support we need to bring this school’s vision to life,” Lessard said.
Now in its second year, Holy Cross High School is planning a permanent campus on 100 acres in Frederica, with room for its academic, spiritual, artistic and athletic programs.
